Hello… I graduated from medical school last February, and I am currently in my internship year. The university won’t issue a certificate of graduation until the end of the year. Can I book and take the MRCS part 1 exam in January without it? or at least can I send it after the closing date for booking ? thanks

The medical degree is acceptable only after you complete your internship. And without your medical degree you won’t be able to appear for MRCS Exam.
Regarding the requirement of a degree to meet the MRCS Exam Eligibility:

The medical degree you are about to get should be listed in GMC accepted medical degrees
An authenticated copy of your degree is required to appear for the exam.
You should get a copy of your degree authenticated or signed by a professor or senior consultant of your hospital

Sir, I studied MBBS in Ukraine. Can i appear for MRCS Part A ?

To enter the examination, a candidate must possess a primary medical qualification that is acceptable to the United Kingdom General Medical Council for Full or Provisional Registration or to the Medical Council in Ireland for Full or Temporary Registration; overseas candidates must hold a primary medical qualification acceptable to the Councils of the colleges.
Prospective candidates who wish to check the acceptability of their medical degrees should see the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) on http://avicenna.ku.dk/database/medicine or the World Directory of Medical Schools on http://search.wdoms.org/. If the medical school does not appear on this list, candidates should contact the examinations department/section at the college to which they wish to apply for the examination for further clarification.

Here is a chat regarding MRCS Exam Eligibility that I had with one of the aspirants. Some of it might be useful for budding surgeons who want to appear for MRCS.

Answer:

The medical degree is acceptable only after you complete your internship. And without your medical degree you won't be able to appear for MRCS Exam.

You should hold a primary medical qualification that is accepted by the United Kingdom General Medical Council.

Thats it, then you have to register for MRCS part a exam and you ll have to send your degree documents verified by your professor/ consultant along with Forms provided.

You can choose to take MRCS exam with any of the Royal colleges of surgeons, each conducts a separate exam.

I have completed my MBBS from Russia and I have registered here in Maharashtra medical council..so you mean to say that I would require my degree to be verified by a professor from my university in Russia?
And is MRCS from any of the 4 Royal colleges of surgeons recognised by Medical council of India?

Whatever hospital you are working in, a senior surgeon can sign it with his hospital stamp

No experience is required, but it is difficult to pass MRCS Part b without basic surgical experience. If I may ask, why do u want to get MRCS? You should be clear about its purpose.

I do have basic surgical experience....and MRCS is my dream...I want to pursue my career in surgery

With MRCS you cannot practice surgery in India..

Why not?

It is just a qualifying exam of royal college membership.
Sort of like Indian PG entrance or USMLE. After these exams you don't gain any skills.

After part b once u have a MRCS degree, you are eligible to apply fot GMC Registration(Like MCI Registration).

MRCS is just one of the requirements to get a Clinical fellowship or a RMO/SHO job in the UK

It gives me opportunity to apply for jobs/ fellowships in UK, New Zealand, Australia.

But after pg entrance exam, we get to enter a residency programme, so in this case also it must be the same right?

A person wanting to be a surgeon would write MRCS, a person wanting to be Physician would write MRCP exam. Thats how it works in UK. Then based on your CV they select you for a job/ residency program/ fellowship.

But MRCS of RCS is included in the schedule 2 and 3 of recognized foreign qualifications of MCI

But MRCS does not give u any surgical experience. How will you do surgery?
It may be valid for promotions and all, but definitely not for practice.
Its a backup option for me, in case I don't get a MCh, I may try for a fellowship outside.

Nops.Overall their surgical training is 6-8 years process... And their system is not like India..its more like the US. After GMC registration you have to apply for 1-2 year speciality training jobs in Surgery (depending on your previous surgical experience) and then 4 -5 years of sub speciality training jobs eg Urology, Vascular Surgery etc

So, after clearing MRCS part B, one can apply for fellowship programmes there in the UK?

Before that you ll have to give IELTS (for English) and Register for GMC (Like MCI registration)

Is MS done from any other country valid? Or do they have specific countries only?I have done MS from Russia...am I eligible for MRCS? I mean, if I go for this exam, I can apply for fellowship?

You ll have check on GMC site if your college is listed there

Do I have to give IELTS for part A?

No... IELTS or OET is a requirement for GMC registration which you need to appear after you are done with your MRCS part B.

Publishing your research article in journals following NMC (MCI) Approved Indexing guidelines has become important for Faculty appointment and promotions in medical colleges in India. In this article we will give you the latest available information until 2021/2022 regarding what to check before submitting your research article to a journal and NMC/MCI guidelines for Indexed journals.

The National Medical Council (NMC), previously called Medical Council of India (MCI) is the ultimate authority in the formulation of regulations and laws regarding the education system at medical schools across the country. It has recommended minimum qualifications that are mandatory to be a candidate for appointment or promotions of faculty members in teaching post. The two primary requirements for promotion are duration of the service as well as the number of publications. This document, dubbed the "Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in Medical Institutions Regulations, 1998" was published with the requirements for publications in the year 2009. Since that time, it has been subject to periodic amendments. The most recent NMC/MCI modification was made through the Gazette Notification No. MCI-12(2)/ 2019-Med.Misc./189334 on February 12, 2020 regarding guidelines on Indexed journals for research article publication.

What are BCMET & BCBMR Certificates?

If the faculty submits the articles for consideration as per the latest NMC (MCI) Approved Journals Indexing Guidelines for Research Publication dated 12 Feb 2020, he/she is also required to submit the following 2 certificates (both the certificates are mandatory):

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has published the details of its Online Research Method Course and Medical Education Technology course for Postgraduate Faculty and Students 2021 via its website.

The course is titled "Basic Course in Bio-medical Research" is an online course designed for postgraduate Medical Students as well as Medical Teachers. It is a National Medical Commission (NMC) authorized course in partnership with the ICMR National Institute of Epidemiology as well as SWAYAM NPTEL. The NMC has made available on its official website its Information Bulletin as well as the registration form for the course.

To enhance the research abilities that post-graduate (MD/MS) students as well as medical educators in order to enhance the research abilities of medical teachers and students, medical teachers and students, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has recommended a common research methodology course for all students across the nation. The course online, "Basic Course in Bio-medical Research" will be provided by the ICMR-National Institute for Epidemiology (ICMR-NIE), Chennai. The course will cover the fundamentals of research methodological research. This course is available by the SWAYAM program of the Ministry of Education through SWAYAM NPTEL.

Modifications were introduced in "Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in Medical Institutions Regulations" on 12.02.2020 making it necessary that medical instructors be able to pass the Basic Course in Biomedical Research at a designated Institution(s) to be promoted to different teaching titles.

The course will be available on the website https://swayam.gov.in and ICMR-NIE (http://nie.gov.in/niecer/bcbr/index.htm). Candidates must sign up for the course as soon as enrollment is open for the cycle.
