As per NMC guidelines for promotion to associate professor, following are the requirements:

Experience Required
5 years of Post PG experience
Qualification
A post graduate qualification MD/MS/ DNB in the concerned subject and as per these Regulations
Teaching and Research Experience
- As Assistant Professor in the subject for 4 years in a permitted/approved/recognized medical college/ institution
- One Research publication (As per the recent NMC publication guidelines)
- Or a research project can also be considered instead of a publication/authorship only if the person is Principal or Co-Principal investigator (P1/CoPI) of a research project funded by a national research body such as Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) or Department of Science and Technology or Department of Biotechnology (DBT) or any such body.
- Should have completed the Basic course in Medical Education Technology from Institution(s) designated by NMC
- Should have completed the Basic course in biomedical research from Institution(s) designated by NMC
Requirements for Super Speciality (DM/M.Ch./DrNB), for promotion to Associate Professor
Experience Required
2 years of Post Super Speciality experience
Qualification
A super speciality post graduate qualification in DM/M.Ch./DrNB in the concerned subject and as per these Regulations.
Teaching and Research Experience
- As Assistant Professor in the subject for 2 years in a permitted/approved/recognized medical college/ institution
- One Research publication (As per the recent NMC publication guidelines)
