No other entrance exam, either at the state or the Institute level, shall be valid for entry to DM/ MCh/ DrNB Super specialty courses as per the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Act, 2016 .w.e.f. 2017 admission session. Qualifying NEET-SS is obligatory for entry to DM/ MCh/ DrNB Courses under various Universities/ institutes in the country.

What was the controversy regarding NEET SS Exam Pattern?

The last-minute changes were introduced to the syllabus after the notification was issued on July 23 2021 for the test to be held on November 13 and 14, 2021. The decision was challenged in the supreme court by a batch of pleas of 41 post-graduate doctors who had challenged these last-minute changes.

NEET SS 2021 Test Pattern matter was heard by a Bench of Judges D.Y. Chandrachud, Vikram Nath and BV Nagarathna. Criticizing the decision of Centre to bring eleventh-hour changes in the test pattern, the Bench disposed the petitions challenging the changes made to the test pattern.

After facing criticism from the court, the government on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, turned around to inform the Supreme Court that it has dropped its decision to apply a new test pattern for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Super Specialty (NEET-SS) 2021. The implementation of the new test pattern will come into effect from the 2022 session of the test.

Latest Exam Pattern of Surgery NEET SS 2022

Old Phased Out NEET SS Exam Pattern

As per the previous pattern, a NEET SS applicant was supposed to appear for two parts or two papers. Paper 1 questions were related to the broad speciality, and Paper 2 was based on the super speciality an applicant would apply for.

New NEET SS Surgery Exam Pattern 2022

The new pattern, to a good extent, will glass the test pattern that was followed in 2017. Rather of two parts of the entrance test or two papers, there will be one paper now, based on an applicant’s primary feeder specialty. In 2017, when the NEET SS came into existence, the paper had 200 questions in all. However, the test to be conducted this time will bear 150 multiple- choice questions, and the applicants will have 150 minutes to complete the test.

As per the marking scheme, an applicant will be awarded four marks for every correct answer, and one mark will be subtracted for every wrong answer. No marks will be awarded or subtracted in case of unattempted questions. One of the most noteworthy data is that the questions marked for review will be evaluated as per the marking scheme.
